Welcome to Sailing to Tokyo, the television series that captures the action from the Olympic classes. We follow the athletes and their campaigns as they fight for the ultimate goal, to represent their country in the greatest sporting event in the world, the Olympic Games, which takes place this year in Japan.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is the most important sports event in the world. Sailors prepare for years and have to show great tenancy and perseverance to win a medal. We accompany the athletes that will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in their path towards the toughest international event.
Crews will have to bond and trust each other to perform to the highest standard. Follow their journey as they set sailing to Tokyo on the journey of their lives. Available on Nautical Channel.
At 15 months out from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic regatta, the first major Olympic classes regatta this season in Europe, the 50th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar drew a record fleet to the Bay of Palma. For many countries, it was a key event for a selection. For others, an actual Olympic selection event.
Let's dive in on this first episode of 2019 Sailing to Tokyo.
In this episode we are following the 2019 RSX European Championships. The 2019 RS:X Europeans and Youth European Championships which are being held on the island of Mallorca, Spain, is a record turn out for the RS:X Class with 333 confirmed entries from 43 different nations representing six different continents over five days of racing. This is not a challenge for the class and athletes alone, but also for the local host Club Nautic Arenal.
Welcome to the third episode of Sailing to Tokyo! This time we move to Great Britain and the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy to follow the Volvo 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 European Championship. This will be the first Olympic class racing event to take place in the UK since 2016! Are you coming with us?
In this month's episode we move to the western edge of Europe and the second largest city of Portugal, Porto. Located alongside the stunning Douro River, Porto is home ot the 2019 Laser Senior European Championships and Open European Trophy with all the top names of the class. Also, new ambitious senior sailors are on their way to the titles.
This time we stay in Europe but find ourselves in Russia's most western and exquisite city: St. Petersburg. We are following the 2019 RS:X Youth World Championship, and this event was hosted by the St. Petersburg Regional Sports, non-governmental Organization: Yacht Club of St. Petersburg. We stay for the opening ceremony before flying to China for the Nimble Cup Asian Windsurfing Championship 2019.
To round off the trip in Olympic classes, join us as we fet off to Italy's San Remo for the 470 European Championships.
Welcome to another episode of Sailing to Tokyo! This time we visit the famous Torbole where the whole of the Worldwide Olympic Windsurfing community focusses for the 2019 RS:X Windsurfing World Championships. Then, we will move to Asia and the largest in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. There, the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht club hosted the inaugural 49er and 49er FX Asian Championships.
To round off the trip, we stay in Asia but jet off to Japaon for one of the most significant events in the 470 class: the 2019 470 World Championship.
Welcome to Sailing to Tokyo 2020! We begin this first episode by travelling to Sorento in Melbourne, Australia, where the 2020 RS:X Windsurfing World Championships took place. A fleet of 116 sailors from 31 nations gathered in Sorento Sailing Couta Boat Club to challenge for the prestigious titles.
Later on, we examine how the Coronavirus pandemic affected an athlete's routine. With the majority of the countries instituting some sort of stay-at-home order, public gatherings of any kind were banned, and numerous sport events were postponed and cancelled.
In this episode we are going to have a closer look to one of the oldest Olympic classes, the 470 class. A strict, one design class, the 470 has proved its pedigree as an Olympic class, being a high-performance sailing dinghy suitable for all body weights from all continents, performing across a wide range of weather conditions.
Across the eleven Olympic Games in which the 470 class has been raced, twenty different nations have secured Olympic medals in the men’s and women’s events, demonstrating the depth of participation and talent.
This time we are going to focus on another exciting Olympic class, the RS:X. The RS:X was first introduced at the 2008 Olympic Games in China. Being the most affordable yachting class eligible for competition in the Olympics, it has been taken up by a large number of sailors from more than 60 nations over 6 continents competing at numerous regattas worldwide.

Welcome to the fourth episode of Sailing to Tokyo 2020, in this month’s episode we will focus on two classes that we will be introduced to the Olympics for Paris 2024. iQFOiL and KiteSurfing are set to make their Summer Olympic debut in Marseille after being approved as two out of the ten sailing events on the programme.
Vanora ENGADINWIND by Dakine, is one of the most famous water sport events in the world and at this windsurfing festival various events take place, including some freestyle action. Held annually during August on Lake Silvaplana, it attracts some of the best athletes the water sport world has to showcase. Let's dive into the action!
Hello and welcome to the fifth episode of Sailing to Tokyo 2020! We continue with more sailing action from the current fastest Olympic sailing classes, in Lake Attersee, Austria for the 2020 Forward WIP 49er, 49er FX & Nacra 17 European Championships. After many cancellations due to the Covid pandemic this event was the most important for these Olympic classes in 2020.

To end the season we focus on one class that will be introduced for Paris 2024. Kiteboarding is set to make its summer Olympic debut in Marseille after being approved as two of the then sailing events on the programme. We will also head to Italy's Genoa to focus on the L30 class, which is a candidate to become an Olympic class in Paris 2024. In this majestic Italian city, the 2020 EUROSAF Mixed Offshore European Championships took place with some of the most legendary sailors participating.

We will begin this first episode with a recap of the previous season, which was supposed to be an Olympic year, but the Covid-19 pandemic rewrote the year’s sporting calendar. In 2020 the Olympic Games did not take place, but there were still plenty of sporting action, like the 2020 RS:X Windsurfing World Championships and the 2020 Forward WIP 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 European Championships.
In this first episode for 2021, we will travel to Porto, in Portugal in order to witness the 2021 Finn Gold Cup. Located along the Douro River estuary in northern Portugal; Porto is one of the oldest European cities, and its centre was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. In this month's episode, we will take you to Porto for the 2021 Finn Gold Cup that has returned to Portugal for the third time in its 65-year history. BB Douro and Douro Marina have hosted the last major event before the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and a new world champion would be determined as well as the final two spots for the Games.
Then, we will travel to Spain for the 49er and 49erFX and Nacra 17. Crews were battling it out for the last remaining spots for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics at the Qualifiers held in Lanzarote. Come sail with us!
In this month’s episode we will watch how nicely the road to Paris Olympics 2024 began for the iQFOiL windsurfing class. We will travel to Switzerland for the 2021 Vanora ENGADINWIND by Dakine and the first ever World Championship for the class held in Lake Silvaplana.

In today's episode we travel to Southern Europe visiting beautiful Greece. Thessaloniki, the country's second-largest city became home of the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 European Championships. Greece is well-known for its beauty and great weather conditions, acting as the perfect backdrop for the European Championships.
Amongt participants there were huge names of the sailing scene competing, such as Tokyo Olympics Silver medalists in Nacra 17, John Gimson and Anna Burnet. Come find out more!

Welcome to the final episode of Sailing to Tokyo 2021! This time, we will be devoted to the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 classes as their representatives found ideal waters in Oman to lock horns with each other. After six memorable days of action, the World Championships came to an end and Oman and Mussanah set the perfect field for such an event.
