Inspiring women you’ll want to meet on nautical shows

Happy Women’s Day! 

Last year, we looked at some of the most inspiring nautical women show you need to watch, and this year the list has grown even more. As women have participated in all kinds of international events: the Olympic Games, Vendée Globe, the PWA World Circuit and more, we have seen new and recurrent female role models in Nautical Channel’s programs. 

Without further delay, let’s dive into the most inspiring women on nautical shows:

Iballa Corazón de Escamas

After overcoming personal and sporting challenges, in 2018 Iballa Ruano Moreno achieved an unprecedented landmark: winning in the same year the world championships of the PWA World Circuit of Windsurf and the APP World Tour of Stand Up Paddle. 

This milestone has never been achieved before by an active athlete, and it puts into highlight the level of dedication of the Moreno Twins. Their journey was not easy, and in this show we open up to this intimate part of their story and dive into the world of the female athlete. 

Rolex World Sailing Awards

Throughout 2021 we have seen several achievements develop, but nothing quite like the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Here, Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre became Olympic champions, and to commemorate their achievements, they have also been named Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2021. 

This is the highest award a sailor can achieve, recognizing their outstanding achievements in sailing. A male and female winner is voted amongst other sailors, partners and sport enthusiasts. Discover the story of Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre in Rolex World Sailing Awards 2021!

Vendée Globe Weekly Highlights

The Vendée Globe is the only solo sailing race around the world non-stop and without assistance. Several people compare it in difficulty with The Ocean Race and the America’s Cup, and it is not for the faint of heart. 

Clarisse Crémer, French skipper, sailed solo in this competition and we can see her weekly voyage in Vendée Globe Weekly Highlights. From ups and downs, to technical difficulties, and mixed emotions, Crémer ended in 12th position after overcoming the Everest of the Seas. Amongst other achievements throughout her sailing career, she finished 6th with Armel Le Cleac’h in the 2019 Transat Jacques Vabre and 4th in the Défi Azimut of 2020.

One with Water

South African freediving record holder, Hanli Prinsloo, has been aware since a young age of the importance animals and nature have on us. When she goes underwater, she explores her body and connects with the ocean, helping with ocean conservation.

Her (literally) breath-taking journey underwater is inspiring and brings us closer to the unknown underwater world. Holding our breath is easier than what is commonly believed, and once it is controlled, you get to discover the depths of the ocean. 

Kite Masters

Daniela Moroz is an US athlete and five times Formula Kite Champion. On Kite Masters, we dive into her world and dedication to discover what drives her into being the best in kiteboarding. We find out her experience inside the sport and look back at all the happenings in the season of the extreme world of kiteboarding. 

Moroz has been leading in kiteboarding since 2016, and she is far from over. An achievement achieved by a handful, she has written her name in this sport. 

Flavours of Venice

Our beloved Nautical Channel host, Andi van Zyl, is discovering how the Venetian Lagoon has created many professions exclusive to this sinking city. This 3-part lifestyle series transports us across the Venetian channels as a group of artisans join efforts to preserve their city in a sustainable way. 

Andi van Zyl is always on the search for enlightening information, discovering customs and helping sustainable businesses across the world. Besides Flavours of the Sea, you can see her helping turtle sanctuaries in Ocean Safari: Kenya or unveiling the mysteries behind the Costa Concordia sinking in Journey to Giglio. 

On Nautical Channel, we want to celebrate this date and raise awareness to incredible women in nautical sports, lifestyle shows and events. They shape the industry we love so much and the increasing number of women's sports events (sailing, surfers, kiteboarding…) and young women interested in them around the world are a great sign of their inclusion.
