The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the world governing body responsible for administering the sport of Canoeing, which includes both canoeing and kayaking. Governing eight disciplines, two of which are Olympic sports (Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom); the ICF delights us with competitions for these sports.
While canoe slalom is a timed event where competitors navigate a whitewater course by passing through a combination of upstream and downstream gates, canoe sprint is a race to the line on a flatwater course. Both present a challenge for which athletes spend months, if not years, preparing for.
Watch this extreme water sport and the two disciplines that take place in the Olympics: sprints and slalom.
