The German government announced the cancellation of trade fairs and the Boot Düsseldorf 2022 due to the rising fear regarding the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Lord Mayor Keller has stated “To contain the omicron variant, do without public fairs such as boot.”
This new regulation bans events taking place with over 750 visitors until the end of January. Boot Düsseldorf normally sees 250,000 visitors, and as the event was due to take place from the 22nd to the 30th of January, it will be cancelled for its second year in a row.
The Ocean Race 2022-23 will visit nine international cities over a period of six-months starting in Alicante, Spain, on January 15th 2023. The start of the 14th edition of this competition will follow the Reyes holiday period in Spain, seeing the two racing fleets (IMOCAs and VO65s) depart on the 32,000 nautical mile race around the world.
The first leg will be a 1,900 nautical mile sprint from Alicante to Cabo Verde, the first time the Race spots at the African archipelago. Also, for the first time in 21 years The Ocean Race will return to Germany when stopping in Kiel in June 2023.

After last year’s cancellation due to COVID, the 42nd St. Maarten Heineken Regatta will take place from March 3rd to March 6th 2022. Relying on proper health protocols and safety measures, the event will be taking place.
