It’s finally here. The moment everyone was waiting for: the America’s Cup Match started today. This event had to be postponed a couple of days due to Level 3 restrictions in New Zealand. Competition has finally started and what a start!

The competition between the defender team Emirates Team New Zealand and the contenders Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team has resulted in a tie. The defender team started the America’s Cup Match Day 1 with an aggressive start as they took the lead from the start in the first race of the day. With an advantage that just kept increasing as they progressed in the legs of the race, Emirates Team New Zealand had a fantastic start of the competition and proved why they are the defending team.

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team had to quickly adapt their strategy if they were hoping to stand a chance in the America’s Cup. And they did. The second race took an opposite direction, as the Italian team started with the lead in the first leg of the competition. Roles reversed as Emirates Team New Zealand did some unforced errors that pushed the distance between the competitors further away.

The first day of the America’s Cup Match just confirms us what we already knew: this is going to be a tough competition where the champion is still unknown. The next match will take place on the 12th of March.

Stay tuned for updates of the race, on Nautical Channel.
