We set out to sail under the hot July sun and brilliant blue skies of Viareggio, a Tuscan port town best known for its long-standing tradition of shipbulding. The journey on board the Ghibellina will take us along the coast of central Italy, guiding us through the various sea passages of the area. Sit down, relax and get on board the Ghibellina with us!
In this episode, we will visit the Sicilian archipelago: the Aeolian islands. We dive into its beautiful landsdcape, villages of small white buildings and lush vegetation. These seven small islands are home to two active volcanos, Vulcano and Stromboli, and the reefs testify the many geological upheavals they have suffered. Enjoy the breathtaking sunrise as we leave the island of Stromboli.
We have left the island of Stromboli and headed towards the Strait of Messina, the famous stretch that separates Calabria from Sicily. This strait is also famous for the strange games that locals play, sparked by the imagination of ancient sea creatures like Scylla and Charybdis, the monsters that Ullyses had to fight to get back home. Sea monsters, beautiful landscapes and original dishes await us in this episode on board the Ghibellina.
Our second journey on board Ghibellina begins once again on the harbour of Viareggio, a small coastal town in Tuscany founded in the 16th century. This new voyage will take us along the coast of the islands of Corsica and Sardinia to discover their unique shores, alternating between beautiful stretches of pristine nature and the most well-known resorts in Italy.
We are ready to visit in this episode the most luxurious resorts along the Sardinian Costa Smeralda, spending our days diving into the sea and enjoying the relaxing beaches. We will sail Ghibellina to the Sardinian archipelago of La Maddalena and continue to the Corsican town of Bonifacio to discover its fascinating history.
We leave the French harbour in Bonifacio and head to the nearby islands of Lavezzi and Cavallo. These uninhabited islets are part of a small archipelago in the infamous Strait of Bonifacio. Waters are dangerous in this area: almost every skerry, shoal and cliff has a long record of shipwrecks and sea disasters. How will Ghibellina overcome this new challenge and arrive unharmed to safe port?
Ghibellina cruises through to Season 3 of the Voyage of the Ghibellina. As usual, we start our journey in the port of Viareggio. This time however, we will be heading towards southern Italy. Our first stop is Ustica, the small volcanic island to the north of Sicily. We are on a mission to discover the capital of Sicily, Palermo, and explore its rich and diverse history.
This time, we set sail to see the beautiful city of Trapani, a city that has always been closely connected to the sea. One of the most clear signs of the city's connection to the sea is its fish market, here we can find all kind of fishes from the area and get a better sense of the local cuisine. Ghibellina is also setting course to the Aegadian Islands and towards the island of Favignana.
