Olympic Rowing Coxless pair and Lightweight double sculls

Jul 29, 2021

New Zealand and Croatia at the top of the podium in the coxless pairs final while Ireland and Italy win gold in the lightweight double sculls.

The rowing medal events came with a splash after being delayed a day due to bad weather at the Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo Bay.

Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy have won Ireland’s first gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics in the Men’s Lightweight double sculls. This is Ireland’s first Olympic gold medal since 2012, its first in rowing.

In the semifinal women’s coxless pair category, Greece broke a world record finishing at 6:48:70. They have made history as the fastest time in the world in this event. This success didn’t repeat during the final though, as victory went to the Kiwi rowing team and the Greeks did not make it to the podium.

The lightweight women's team to win was formed by Valentina Rodini and Federica Casarini of Italy.
