This weekend a new championship of the Championship Tour will take place, and there is less and less time left to know who will be the winner and will be proclaimed the best surfer in the world 2023. There are specifically two tests and the grand final, where the five best positioned in the ranking of the World Surf League will compete to proclaim the best of the season.
The clashes of the first round of the seventh round of the CT, the Surf City el Salvador Pro, have already been published. El Salvador Pro is held at Punta Roca, a high performance right on the southwest coast of the country.
This event starts next June 9, just two days after the end of the ISA Worlds. Leilani McGonagle and Bryan Perez will be the guests of the WSL, completing the list of participants of this event. For Leilani, a 23-year-old Costa Rican, it will be her debut in a Championship Tour event, and she will have to compete with two of the best surfers, Carissa Moore and Lakey Peterson. Kelly Slater and Johanne Defay are the season's wildcards for today and the rest of the season.
These days a stormy activity has been registered in the middle of the South Pacific that will cause a magnificent swell for the start of the competition. This added to the good wind conditions that are expected, will make the surfers compete in more than favorable circumstances.
Let's remember that the current ranking is as follows:
In the men's category, the top five are (those who would make it to a hypothetical final):
1. Griffin Colapinto
2. Joao Chianca
3. Filipe Toledo
4. Ethan Ewing
5. Jack Robinson
While in the women's category they would be:
1. Carissa Moore
2. Tyler Wright
3. Molly Picklum
4. Caroline Marks
5. Caitlin Simmers
