Sailing towards the Superyacht Cup 25th anniversary

Just a few hours before the start of the Superyacht Cup Palma, final preparations are taking place to ensure its 25th anniversary landmark is unforgettable. 

The celebration of the longest running superyacht regatta in Europe has been carefully planned to meet local pandemic restrictions in Mallorca. The Superyacht Cup Palma will take place from the 23rd to the 26th of June. 

An impressive fleet

The primary focus of the Superyacht Cup Palma will be on the Bay of Palma, where the magnificent fleet including some of the world’s most spectacular superyachts will compete in safe and fun racing. 

We have spotted in the entry list the elegant 46m Scorpione, seen last during the 2018 SYC, joining the returnee 34m Nilaya. The Nilaya came in second during the Class A 2019 edition, behind the SYC winner Win Win. Both will be flying the flag for Baltic Yachts. 

The incredible 47m Perini Navi Aquarius will also be making its return and it is so far the largest entry. The 34m Baiurdo VI, the stylish 46m Ganesha and the 33m Missy will also be making an appearance in this year's edition. 

Newcomers include the trio of the striking 35m Shamanna and Swan 80 Umiko - both from the Nautor shipyard - and the mesmerising 43m Ravenger from Royal Huisman.

Operations move to the Real Club Nautico de Palma

The centre of the Superyacht Cup operation has moved to the heart of the city, as the world-famous Real Club Náutico de Palma becomes the headquarters of the event. The sailing club in the Balearic island has grown its involvement with the SYC throughout the years. 

In the case pandemic restrictions are eased or lifted, the RCNP will be flexible in the implementation of social events within Palma de Mallorca. Moreover, it provides an elegant and historic setting for the unique trademark brand of the SYC.

“Superyacht Cup Palma has always put people first on and off the water, and never more so than at this anniversary event,” Superyacht Cup Palma Event Director, Kate Branagh.

Success of the event over the past 25 years has been, according to Kate Branagh, due in large part to its ability to react and respond to circumstances. They have been fast at changing the requirements of the superyacht community so captains, owners, crews and commercial partners benefitted and enjoyed this fun event.

“We are confident 2021 will be a safe, enjoyable and above all stimulating return to competitive yacht racing.”

Mallorca and superyachts come hand in hand

Palma de Mallorca has become a loved destination by participants in the SYC. According to regular participant Bouwe Bekking, Palma offers excellent conditions that are reliable. It offers 12 knots of breeze, maybe a little bit more. 

As it is almost certain that sailing is guaranteed, it is common that the owners and the crews look forward to returning to this event year after year. The event is great and it offers serious racing mixed with relaxed, fun events. 

“Mallorca is a very special place to sail, and you just know that Palma Bay is going to turn it on with beautiful conditions. I have raced a lot of different yachts in a lot of different places, and superyachts and Palma just go together.” Mike ‘Moose’ Sanderson, sailor. 

Superyacht Cup Palma Programme

We will be able to celebrate the best superyacht regattas from june 23-26. The Pantaenius Race Day will be the first race of the event and luckily will be blessed by the reliable sea breeze that blows in the Bay of Palma. 

The action continues the following day with the New Zealand Race Day, and final results will be decided on Saturday with the prize-giving at the Real Club Náutico de Palma.
