Emirates Team New Zealand reaffirmed their status as favorites by winning the preliminary race of the 37th America's Cup, held in the iconic setting of Barcelona's harbor. This victory not only boosts the confidence of the New Zealand team but also highlights their technical mastery in sailing the AC75s, the fast-flying monohulls featured in this edition of the competition.

The team, led by the experienced Peter Burling, outperformed their closest competitors, including Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, on a day marked by 12 to 15 knots of wind and waves up to one meter high. These conditions tested the stability and control of the AC75s in foiling mode. Emirates Team New Zealand displayed a perfect balance of speed and strategy, maximizing their boat’s performance with smooth transitions and precise maneuvers.

A key factor in the Kiwis' success was their handling of flight control, where the coordination between the trimmer and the helmsman was flawless, allowing the boat to soar over the waves with minimal water contact. Additionally, the team demonstrated great adaptability in every segment of the race, adjusting the angle of attack of the foils and the sail configuration according to the changing wind conditions.

This preliminary victory places Emirates Team New Zealand in a strong position ahead of the final phase of the Louis Vuitton Cup, which begins on August 29. Their rivals, such as American Magic and Alinghi Red Bull Racing, will need to refine their strategies if they hope to challenge the reigning champions, who have shown impeccable form in these early races.

The competition promises to be fierce, with the technology of the AC75s and the teams’ skill pushed to the limit each day. The America’s Cup final, which will be held in October, will be the ultimate stage where it will be determined whether Emirates Team New Zealand can retain their title against increasingly prepared and aggressive competition.
