There’s no competition that escapes COVID-19 and the World Surf League (WSL) has decided to cancel the Men’s Bali Pro 2021 edition.
Competition was meant to start on Friday 5th of March in the famous Indonesian island of Bali. This competition had changed its name in 2019 from Corona Bali Pro to Corona Bali Protected as part of a WSL campaign to raise awareness of marine plastic pollution. Ever since, the competition included micro-plastics talks, beach cleaning and zero plastic events.
Competition normally takes place in Keramas and 36 surfers take part of a Seeding Round where the top two surfers in each heat advance directly to the Round of 32, while the lowest-placed surfer in each heat enters the Elimination round. From the Round of 32 onwards, the competition follows a single elimination format where the lowest ranking contender is eliminated.
We hope we are able to live the WSL Corona Bali Protected in 2022. Until then, we will be reading announcements from the WSL on any further competitions being cancelled.
