The Cannes Yachting Festival 2021 is finally here and we are excited for the almost 600 boats, 430 exhibitors and more than 140 previews. The festival is the biggest boat show in Europe.
The event is divided in two venues, the Vieux Port and Port Canto. Attendants will be able to perform sea trials of boats, discover new boats that range from 3 to 45 metres in-water length and talk with the employees of shipyards or manufacturers from all over the world.
Moreover, this year is even more exciting for the green transition the Yachting Festival is taking. This is because the show will be offering a complete “Green Route”. This adaptation is an ecological trail highlighting exhibitors who are developing or presenting concepts in favour of ecology. More than 50 exhibitors take part in this trail, showcasing over 80 innovative boats.
The superyacht industry has not escaped global environmental awareness. For several years now several marinas, the nautical industry, professionals and users have become more aware of the real impact their activities have on the environment. We have to remember travelling by yacht is still one of the least ecological ways to travel.
Despite the restrictive international rules that aim to protect the natural environment, and the obligations for marinas to reserve 1% of their berths for electric boats by 2022, the transition is slow. This is why the Yachting Festival de Cannes 2021 is dedicated to encouraging this ecological transition to reduce the environmental impact of the industry.
The new themes of sustainable development are a great opportunity to reinvent the world of boating and reimagine the future. Besides the “Green Route”, teh Festival also offers the “Energy Observer”: educational exhibitions presenting the work on hydrogen and renewable energies.
Silent-Yachts, a pioneer in solar energy in the yachting world will be showing its latest Silent 60. This is their solar-powered catamaran capable of sailing up to 100 miles per day without fuel, emissions or noise. It stretches 18m in length, its deck has built in solar panels and has a CE-A certification.
Hynova Yachts will present in the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival its first yacht approved as an electro-hydrogen powered pleasure craft: the Hynova 40. This first model in the world uses hydrogen stored on board to navigate without CO2, noise or hydrocarbon leakage. There are two different ranges as well as a custom made option.
Neocean has already been thinking about the navigation of tomorrow for the past 3 years, and has proposed new ways to navigate without polluting or disturbing the marine life. They are bringing the eco friendly Overboat foiler, a boat both silent and clean, with energy needs reduced by 60%.
Windelo, a brand new on the market presents its first eco-responsible catamaran, the Windelo 50 Adventure. It is a simple, high-performance sailing boat that allows users to sail the world respecting the environment.
